The Spirit of Community Fund was established in ____ by pooling together the unrestricted funds held at SCCF. This fund supports both long-time and emerging challenges in the community through quarterly grant cycles. SCCF is particularly interested in grant projects that shed new light on Steuben County’s needs and aspirations, with emphasis on providing long-term solutions. Proposals are not limited to these areas, although grantseekers responding to emerging community needs are encouraged to contact SCCF before applying. SCCF places a low priority on projects where we will be the sole funder.
In July of 2018, SCCF approved a grant of $3,700 to ACRES, Inc. to install two interpretive panels at Wing Haven, a nature preserve located near Fremont. The goal of this project is to inspire habits of nature preservation among community members by sharing the history of Ben and Helen Swenson, who were caretakers at Wing Haven starting in 1948. The grant also funded treatment of non-native invasive plant species and restoration with native plants, grasses, and trees.
