Board of Directors
“I knew it was a good organization, an organization that the community benefits from, and I wanted to be part of it.”
Jan Williams has been a dedicated SCCF board member since 2008. She grew up in Auburn, Indiana, then moved to New Haven. Jan decided to study Early Childhood Education at IPFW, and this passion for children has followed her ever since. She and her husband, Galen, moved to Angola in 1976 when he had an opportunity to work as a dentist here. Although they initially didn’t know anyone in the community, they have since
become community leaders and made a significant impact on Steuben County.
Jan joined the SCCF board hoping to learn something new and contribute to the community in some way. Her favorite SCCF projects include Bike 101 with their annual event to raise money
for the arts, and the large transformational grants to organizations like the Community Humane Shelter. She hopes to use her voice on the board to address the issue of early childhood education and promote quality, affordable options for Steuben County families. This is one of the largest challenges she thinks SCCF will face in the future.
In addition to the SCCF Board of Directors, Jan has served on the boards of Isaac Knapp Dental Auxiliary, the PTO, and Psi Iota Xi philanthropic sorority. She received training from the Isaac Knapp auxiliary to teach children in Steuben County about dental health. Jan also taught Religious Education at St. Anthony’s for a time. In recognition of her service to the community, Jan received the Woman Volunteer of the Year from Angola’s Association of Professional Business Women, and the IDA Charles W. Gish Community Dental Health Award, presented to Jan and her husband, Galen.
Jan and Galen have two children who live in Carmel, and three grandchildren. In her free time, Jan enjoys gardening, reading, travel, biking and walking. She loves that Steuben County has great people who are open to new things and are supportive of the growing community.
