Steuben County Community Foundation Honors Partnership with Trine University
If you want to get better at doing what you care about, the Steuben County Community Foundation and Trine University are ready to help.
The Foundation has conducted 50 leadership training workshops for non-profit organizations in the local area over the past five years.
These workshops are part of a larger initiative by the Foundation’s board to enhance the capability of non-profits in Steuben County. The workshops aim to assist non-profits in improving their effectiveness, strengthening their organization, and learning how to increase their resources. Many of these workshops have occurred at Trine University’s 450-acre Angola campus.
“We are thankful to Trine and their staff for graciously allowing us to utilize their extraordinary facilities,” said Lisa Biers, vice president of programs at Steuben County Community Foundation. “Trine’s updated buildings feature state-of-the-art technology, enhancing the learning and development experience for our community’s non-profit professionals.”
The workshops are free to nonprofit organizations and cover various topics such as board development, fundraising, grant writing, marketing, and strategic planning. These topics were developed based on feedback from local non-profit board members and staff.
“Nonprofit organizations require skilled and knowledgeable leaders at every level to perform their roles effectively,” said Carmyn Hottell, director of community engagement and leadership at Steuben County Community Foundation. “Training and development programs provide these leaders with the necessary tools to improve efficiency, productivity, and performance, and retain their best employees.”
The Foundation recently opened workshops to businesses and community leaders for a nominal fee. One such event was the “Emotional Intelligence in Leadership” session at Trine’s MTI Center. The session saw an increase in attendance with 46 registrants and was led by Linda Cooper and Linda Conley, professors from Trine University’s Ketner School of Business.
When asked about the reason for the surge in attendance for this event, Hottell replied, “Topics are chosen by attendees from survey responses and by utilizing a great community asset like Trine University.” Hottell continued, “Trine offers the tools and essential resources to empower leaders and bolster our community.”
