Community Foundation Announces Grant Opportunities from Opioid Settlement Fund
ANGOLA, IN—The Steuben County Community Foundation will be accepting grant applications to support substance abuse recovery and prevention programs in Steuben County, Indiana. The first grant cycle will open on May 1, 2025, and the deadline is June 30, 2025. Each application can request up to $10,000. A second grant cycle will begin on October 1, 2025, and the deadline is November 30, 2025.
The grant funding originates from a portion of the National Opioid Settlement, which was allocated by the Indiana General Assembly to local governments in March 2022. Earlier this year, the Steuben County Government and the City of Angola directed some funds to the Community Foundation. This funding will establish a unified approach to support local organizations in Steuben County that assist residents affected by substance abuse through treatment, prevention, and care.
The Steuben County Substance Abuse Response Fund's volunteer advisory committee will evaluate applications based on specific criteria, and the Community Foundation's Board will make the final decisions according to five principles established by the state of Indiana. The principles are:
Save lives: Focus on efforts that directly reduce the impact of substance abuse on the community.
Evidence-based spending: Use data-driven approaches to guide funding allocations.
Youth prevention: Invest in initiatives to prevent substance abuse in youth populations.
Racial equity: Ensure equitable access and outcomes in the allocation of funds.
Fair and transparent process: The process will be transparent and inclusive.
“Selecting the right volunteers for the Substance Abuse Response Fund advisory committee was vital. The diverse backgrounds of our committee members offer crucial insights into substance use disorders, ensuring we effectively support our neighbors in need and align with our county’s and the state’s goals for opioid settlement funds.”
These grants are available to nonprofits, healthcare providers, and government agencies. Applications must be submitted online through SCCF’s grant portal, applications open on May 1st.
Eligibility Requirements:
Programs that serve Steuben County residents.
Proposals that address one or more of the Fund's guiding principles.
Priority is given to evidence-based approaches with measurable outcomes.
